Classes

Get Your License!
We regularly hold One-Day Tech Classes. These classes start at 9 am and run until about 3:30 pm, at which time, we give students the exam. We have been doing this for several years now and have a pass rate of greater than 90%.Print

Can you really get your license in a single day? Well, yes and no. It’s true that the class is only one day, but you need to study a little before attending the class. To increase the chances that you will pass the test, we strongly recommend that you read through our study guide beforehand. You can download a PDF file of the study guide for no charge.

The next class will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the EECS Building on the University of Michigan’s North Campus. The class will run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, at which time students will be given the test.

To pre-register for the upcoming class, or to get on the mailing list to be informed of other upcoming classes, e-mail Dan, KB6NU at cwgeek@kb6nu.com or phone him at 734-930-6564.

Upgrade to General!
Starting on Saturday, January 7, 2017, Dan, KB6NU will be teaching a General Class course at the All Hands Active (AHA) makerspace. AHA is located in downtown Ann Arbor at 255 E Liberty St #225. Classes will begin at 10 am and run until approximately noon. Unlike the one-day Tech classes, this class will run for eight to ten weeks, depending on how fast the class can get through the material.

There are several reasons that this is not a one-day General class. First, there’s more material to be covered than on the Tech test, and it’s covered in more depth as well. Second, the class is going to attempt to teach you more than just the answers to the test.

Having said that, you don’t have to show up for every class. A schedule will be published beforehand, and you can feel free to skip classes on topics that you already know. It’s not like you’re taking this class for college credit, and you’re responsible for whether or not you pass the test once the class is over.

There will be a $10 fee for the class, though, whether you come for a single session or all eight. This money goes to our hosts, All Hands Active, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community organization. They do all kinds of cool things, and you might want to check them out, even if you don’t take this class.

The text for the class will be KB6NU’s No-Nonsense General Class License Study Guide. You can purchase the e-book version for $7.99 (cheap!), or if you prefer a print version, they will be available for $10 (that’s a $5 discount). If you do want the print version, contact Dan, so that he can have enough on hand.

To pre-register for the class, e-mail Dan, KB6NU, at cwgeek@kb6nu.com or phone him at 734-930-6564.
