Minutes of the October 24th, 2007 Board Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 7:40pm in the Washtenaw Chapter of the American Red Cross, Ann Arbor MI

Treasurer Report – Jeff Zupan W8SGZ

  • $750 in the checking account.
  • $2700 in the money market account.
  • Total assets estimated around $3000

President Report – Steve Andre WB8WSF

  • Tower Plaza Situation. Mark Dobronski presented an example Word Perfect boiler plate operating contract. Steve Andre will supply Steve Josephson with needed technical information to include in the ARROW Tower Plaza operating contract.
  • Following a review, the contract will be presented to Jane Bradley of the Kramer-Triad Building Management Company. The Kramer-Triad board of directors should grant final approval of the ARROW operating contract by November 3rd, 2007.

Dayton Hamvention Bus Trip Planning
The board has decided to proceed with the 2008 Dayton Hamvention Bus Trip. The board urges the Program Coordinator, Karen T. KD8AOK to obtain a lock in rate via a contract with Getaway Tours as soon as possible. Sam Proud KC8QCZ will likely arrange the price and place a deposit with the bus company.

ARROW Board Candidates for 2008

  • Dan KB6NU reported that he has lined up candidates for all positions, except for the Public Service Officer.
  • The slate of candidates will be posted on the ARROW web page. The board will entertain new candidate nominees.

ARROW Email Lists

  • A proposal to have the board Yahoo mailing list available to all members to respond to topics of discussion. A board private email list will be utilized for non-public sensitive issues and topics.
  • A motion was presented and passed unanimously by the present quorum of officers.

Antennas on Corwin Moore’s Tower

  • There are various ARROW antenna projects on Corwin’s tower such as the old 220 digi-peater antenna. It has failing hardware that could cause catastrophic failure of the guying system.
  • The board needs to discuss appropriate measures to remove old antenna equipment.
  • The one option on the table is to look into a professional tower service to do the removal. A rough estimate will be around $1000 to $2000 for the antenna and feedline removal. April 2008 is the time frame for the removal project. Clark Wierda N8CBW is assigned to coordinate the project and will have a plan for the ARROW board by the next December meeting.

Planning for the future

  • The need to have a multiple receive system for the ARROW repeaters.
  • A club station for the ARROW membership other than the Ann Arbor HOM and the Red Cross.
  • Continue to plan for future repeater needs from the membership. Tim Prosser KT8K will propose a meeting to discuss the issues.

Next ARROW board meeting will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Washtenaw Chapter of the American Red Cross Building, 4164 Packard, Ann Arbor, MI, time tbd. One of the topics to be addressed at the next meeting is an update to the bylaws, including adding the Public Information Officer to the board and dues restructuring.
