K8ELRI am fairly new but I have been interested in Ham radio for years. I had a science teacher in the sixth grade who was a ham. His name was Simon Crison. This was in about 1962. I would love to see his listing in an old call book from that period. I worked as an Engineer for 14 years at an Areospace/defense contractor based in a suburb of Detroit. Not all industry around Detoit is automotive. I then worked for another defense contractor in the same area for another 3 years. I decided about that time I wanted to start my own business. In 1988 I started a computer sevice and consulting company. It was incorporated in Michigan named Expert PC Services. I sold the sucessful company in 1997. I was then offered a job in computer networking and service with a company that does the computer service at Ford. Worked there for about 7 years. I decided then to retire and take a part time job at the local library doing computer service. I had a stroke in 2006 and now I am now formally retired. I have plenty of time now to play with my radio. My current station is all Icom. I have a 746pro, 706mk11, 718, and a 207h. I made my first real hf contact recently. It was a guy in Bermuda and he was operating on 20m as VP9/W6xx. It was a short exchange because it was during the ARRL SSB Contest. I have already sent my qsl card and I hope he sends his to me. My motto is: Lead, follow or get out of the way! 73! JIM K8ELR
