Report on February ARROW general meeting
We had a great February general meeting on Wednesday, February 8 on the campus of Washtenaw Community College. We had 25 people in attendance for Jerry Begal’s (W9NPI) third and final portion of his “History of Telegraphy”, which was very interesting. Thanks to Jerry for such a great presentation over the last few months.
Our Treasurer, Harvey (KB8MUP), asked that anyone who hasn’t yet paid their 2012 dues ($20), please pay them right away. Financially, we continue to operate in the black, with a net worth of $1360.
Sam (KD8QES), our Activities Coordinator, reported that we are getting the word out to all SE Michigan clubs (and some outside this region) about the Dayton bus trip. Fliers are being taken to all swaps in this part of the state and are being mailed to more distant swaps.
Jim (WD8RWI), our Public Service Officer, is in contact with Champions for Charity, who run the Big House Big Heart and Ann Arbor Marathon.
Jay (WB8TKL), our Technical Coordinator, says that the 2m and 440 repeaters are running fine, he plans to get up to Wolverine Tower soon to see what can be done about the 220.
I reported that the monthly breakfasts have been moved to the Classic Cup Cafe on Jackson Rd, and will usually be held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 9:00, so that we can combine our breakfasts with the QRP group. I’ve reserved the back room at Classic Cup for every third Saturday in 2012 EXCEPT March and May. In March, the 17th was already booked, so I booked March 31. In May, the third Saturday falls during the Dayton weekend, so we’re not likely to need a big room for those left in town.
We have sent letters to our contact at Domino’s Farms about using Signal Hill for Field Day again, but have not heard back yet. One letter was sent in early January, the other last week. We talked about a couple of other possible sites for Field Day, but welcome more suggestions.
The March meeting will also be held at WCC, room location TBA. The March program will be a packet radio presentation by Jay WB8TKL.

Report on the monthly breakfast (Egg Chew) at the Classic Cup Cafe
Yesterday, January 28, we had the ARROW monthly breakfast (Egg Chew) at the Classic Cup Cafe on Jackson Road due to the Old Country Buffet closing. We had a good turnout with 24 people present. The general opinion seemed to be that the food, portions, and prices were good, so we should continue to meet there.
We also talked about the QRP group wanting to join us, but they have to meet on the third Saturday. We decided to change our monthly breakfast from the last Saturday to the third Saturday to accommodate this request.
I reserved the back room for the following dates, from 9-11 AM. The QRP guys can come at their usual 9:30, if they wish.
February 18
March 31 (third Saturday was already booked, and since it’s St. Patrick’s Day, is very busy at the restaurant)
April 21
June 16
July 21
August 18
September 15
October 20
November 17
December 15
I did not reserve a date in May, because the third Saturday is the weekend of
the Dayton Hamvention. If you feel there will still be a lot of people in town,
I can yet reserve that date; otherwise, those few who are in town can meet in
the front part of the restaurant. We did that yesterday because the room had
been double-booked.
