With hurricane Irene making landfall this morning, those of you without HF rigs can listen in to the “Hurricane Watch Net” on 14.325Mhz by going to the following URL. This is a service provided by Radio Reference.

Since 20-meters is predominantly a daytime band, you may not hear much during nigh time hours.

In loo of having a regular General meeting this month, Bruce, our exsteamed President,  has instituted a new tradition for all ARROWheads to attend!

With the success of last years August Hootanany out at Domino’s Farm, Bruce has decreed that it is to happen again this year!

It will be held in conjunction with the ARRL August UHF contest again this year.

The only requirement to attend this is to bring a covered dish and yourself. Plates and utensils would help also unless you want to use your fingers. Michelle has ‘hinted’ that she may be able provide a few utensils but just on the off chance she does not remember (she is also helping out on the CURE ride that morning), I would suggest you bring your own in case.

The UHF contest starts at 2pm Saturday with the Hootanany to start around 5pm and last till you get tired of telling those TALL yarns of that DX that got away. There is also a planned ‘Musical’ portion to the Hootanany again this year where those in attendance are asked to bring out any musical instruments they have and have a jam session to see who can keep in rythem to the tunes that are suggested by non-musical attendees.

The UHF contest ends at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
