AMP team outings are a great way to hone up on your skills while getting together with friends!

Monday April 25th is our monthly AMP Team outing

This month’s AMP team outing will be held at the following location at 6:00PM:

Washtenaw County Red Cross
4624 Packard Rd
Ann Arbor, MI 48108

We have moved the Contesting Trailers to the Red Cross so that we can review the contents, discuss the materials and equipment, and decide if we should be adding anything else to our portable contest setup.

AMPteam is a year-round, monthly, get together of hams to practice their skills in the field. We meet at a different public location on the fourth Monday of each month, and try out new gear, show off new tricks, or just rag chew. We also take the chance to talk about amateur radio with anyone who comes by to ask…

Trailer and Signal Hill clean up – Sunday April 17th – 2:30pm

Sunday April 17th at 2:30pm, there will be a get together out at the Signal Hill site on Domino’s Farm so that we can give the Comm trailer a good going over and clean out for this coming VHF / Field Day season plus we are planning to go through all the materials that are sitting out under the patch of trees to see what can and can not be used this summer. We will also be giving the comm trailer a good going over to see what needs to be fixed and can be repeaired.

What we could use for this are the following:

Paper towels

cleaning agents – detergent, glass cleaner, solvent (to get the tougher stuff off)

brooms, brushes, dust pans, vacuum(?)

For the tree brush area, we could use the following:

Weed eaters (trimmers) and a lawn mower

If enough people show up, we could possibly have a small bbq with hot dogs and hamburgers with choice of beverage since there is a small grill in the trailer.

If it happens to rain Sunday afternoon, I am working to see if we could bring the trailer to the Red Cross and use one of the bays to do the clean up of the trailer. I will announce this via the ARROW-General list as it gets closer if we get permission.

April Meeting Program

Due to technical difficulties the March program did not include Steve (K8QKY) Culp’s presentation on his DX-pedition to Ogasawara Island. I am happy to announce that the April 13, 2011 meeting program features the remainder of Steve’s presentation. Ogasawara Island is located 600 miles southeast of Tokyo and is only reachable by a 26 hour boat trip.

Traveling with Steve were three other amateur radio operators from the southeastern Michigan area. They operated for two weeks and made several thousand radio contacts around the world. Steve will annotate his adventures with photographs of the island, WWII findings, and his ham radio operation. Furthermore, Steve will bring along some items used during the DX expedition that will be of interest to the radio club members.
